Still Waters Community UMC exists to find the lost, release the captive, and develop disciples of Jesus.

General
The ideal candidate is an energetic, creative, high-energy individual with the ability to motivate others, someone who has a passionate, growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior with a clear calling to youth and young adult ministry. This person casts vision, provides leadership, and effectively equips volunteers and corresponding staff to partner in the ministry under their oversight. It is expected that the Director of Youth and Family Ministries work cooperatively with the church staff, youth volunteers, and parents to accomplish the mission and ministry of the church.
Qualifications:
• Possess a mature growing Christian faith with the ability to articulate that faith and inspire youth.
• Called to and passionate for youth and young adult ministry.
• Ability to develop a good rapport with students, leaders, and parents
• Strong planning and organizational skills, and a high level of self motivation.
• Strong oral and written communication skills. Effective communication in both public and personal settings.
• Commitment to a team concept of ministry. Values team development and working with a variety of people.
• Musical ability i.e. guitar, voice, etc. with experience and desire to utilize these gifts as part of youth events.
• Ability to vision a cohesive youth program in partnership with church staff, and SPRC and then lead and coordinate staff and volunteers to realize that vision.
• Creative and effective in managing multiple priorities and assignments.
• Ability to develop sustainable ministries with changing leadership support
• Be comfortable leading both large and small groups in games, worship, programs, and discussions.
• Proficiency in generating effective programs and implementing creative ideas
• Bachelor's degree in education, youth ministry or a related field
Preferred
• Bachelor's degree in education, youth ministry or a related field, plus two years experience working with youth and/or young adults, providing leadership and assisting them in developing a mature faith; OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience..
Responsibilities and Expectations
• Lead all youth ministries in such a way as to create a unified and cohesive program for youth and family ministry that is in line with the youth ministry philosophy for Still Waters United Methodist Church.
• Plan and implement age-appropriate activities along with adult volunteers that connect relational and transformational themes through fellowship, fun and faith development. Lead the planning and execution of special youth events, such as retreats, mission trips, recreational outings and outreach opportunities.
• Recruit, organize, motivate and support a large group of adult volunteers and parents to aid in program implementation and development.
• Develop and coach a program leadership team (youth council) consisting of both youth and adults. Coordinate and lead regular meetings for the team.
• Encourage and help integrate youth into all aspects of the church's ministries
• Co-facilitate confirmation activities and the transition to youth ministries
• Develop relationships with the youth, their family members, and other youth not currently involved in the church (inactive church members and youth in the community).
• Communicate weekly schedule in the church office
• Actively communicate with youth, parents, congregation, and church leadership through newsletter, emails, phone, and internet on a regular basis.
• Provide appropriate referral if the need for youth counseling is identified
• Track youth activities and volunteer involvement for quarterly reports
• Help to create a budget for the joint youth ministry each year. Coordinate with staff as needed to track budget usage and accurate accounting for money collection.
• Lead by example and be visible in worship and in the life of the church.
• Coordinate with and take advantage of community and United Methodist resources for youth program development.
• Seek professional development opportunities through education and peer networks.
Reporting Structure and Hours
The Youth Ministry Director is accountable to the Staff Parish Relations Committee and under the immediate supervision of the pastor. He/she will supervise volunteer staff and Tide-pool coordinator in this ministry, attend weekly staff meetings, and connect regularly with the senior pastor. This is a full time position with expectation of involvement in worship, youth activities, and community events that are important to the youth you serve.

Compensation: Competitive salary plus benefits including medical insurance and paid vacation. The individual filling this position will be subject to a national and local background check.
